Here in this place, the echoes of the past engulf us in an ocean of abstract moments; their original spirits and the intent of their design have long since vanished. Signs, people and technology are all absent leaving behind only nature’s rampant growth, although one might feel that even in the inequity of the surroundings, life itself is entirely absent and this can not but force a feeling of absolute solitude. The rocks somehow manage to faintly preach defiance; they proudly proclaim themselves against the skies, winds, deserts, seas and jungles. Although they also throw themselves against the inevitable passage and silent erosion of time, these ancient walls remain standing all over the world in testament of existence – connected by their elemental solidarity.

It is a privilege to walk amongst these built ruins; each footstep is an epilogue to those who have gone before. In these places our imaginations run wild, it is impossible to keep the flood of images from engulfing us with the romance of tombs, temples and treasures. To move amongst these walls is to keep alive the hope of discovery. Every turned corner, alighted staircase, opened door or entered chamber tantalizes us with truths untold. The stones wish to give their secrets to us and they lead us on with tales and whispers. Listening carefully we can all hear the same promise; we are the first and the last to find these sanctums. To stand here is to live in a memory, just as to remember is to stand here. Every visit is as it was before, the same, such as the words on a page or forbidden lore.

The light and shadows hold us hostage to the dancing textures, stationary in their place but alive in composition. An eternity can be spent, amongst the night or day, sunrise and sunset, yet nothing changes. Just one touch, just one look or just one breath can reveal a mirror into the past, a delusion of history. The endless tricks of the mind place upon us visions of battle, heroism, kings and queens. Following these parades of fiction are vast planes of emotion, different for everyone; perhaps you will feel a super-saturated sense of belonging, trepidation, tranquility or virility. These places bring us endless questions presenting us a true doorway to meditation. It is here amidst the gaps between culture that we can see our soul’s conservation and a path amidst the omnipresent stone from the future to the past for endless preservation.
